For this my first post, I am sitting in the quiet pondering Easter tomorrow. It's a time of true Christian celebration and, one would hope, a time when people come together to bond under one faith. It is often surprising to me that people attend church on Easter Sunday (and perhaps Christmas) when otherwise they would not go at all. What is it about Easter Sunday that prompts the otherwise church-less to attend? I think it is the same thing that prompts the dying to cry out for help from a God they profess not to believe in. Easter is a time that we should reflect on our true passions. Christ's passion for us lead him to the cross, and then to conquer death. Where do our passions lead us on Easter Sunday? Fishing? Easter egg hunts? Ham dinners? or perhaps nowhere special at all?
What do we owe Christ in our passions? Everything. What does he usually receive from us? Scraps. A challenge then to all, may your passions be Christ-driven in every aspect of your Easter (and beyond). Passion is an often neglected word in the church and I think this is so unfortunate. Passion drives everything we do, our every decision and whim is based on what our passion is that moment. Christ's passion for us drove his very existence and the truth of his sacrifice lies within it. Do not lose sight of your goal. Do not let other passions over take you. Let the passions of Christ rule your world and then the rest fall where it may.
